Getting There – A True Adventure in Itself

Your hunt begins with a flight into Dushanbe, Tajikistan’s capital. From there, the real journey starts. You’ll load into a Toyota Land Cruiser and take off on a 20-hour drive over some of the wildest and roughest roads imaginable “The road to China”. The trip takes you through breathtaking yet treacherous landscapes, past remote villages, and along the Afghanistan border, offering a glimpse into one of the most untouched regions on Earth. We made a 16 hour leg to a neat little hotel with the coolest inn keeper and stayed all night before loading up and finishing out the drive to the lodge. Getting to the lodge and being greeted by the team is special these guys are pros and welcoming. Any fear you have had about a journey like this disappears. As the hunt is important the people are equally important.

Despite the extreme conditions, you won’t be roughing it entirely. Your accommodations will include a comfortable mountain lodge, providing warm beds, delicious local cuisine, and the perfect place to recover after long days of glassing and hiking at high altitude. Vosif and Shavkat have a team unmatched from scouting to meals. The Sauna and cold plunge are life savers after a long hike out of the mountains.

The Hunt – Tracking Giants in the Pamirs

Hunting at 13,000-15,000 feet requires peak physical fitness and determination. Days are spent glassing vast valleys, searching for the iconic Marco Polo sheep with their massive spiraled horns. These rams are known for their incredible eyesight and elusive nature, making every successful stalk an extraordinary achievement. Alongside sheep, Pamir ibex provide an additional challenge, often found navigating near-vertical cliffs with ease. What a incredible sight first laying eyes on the Marco polo’s they are much bigger in person than one would expect. Being prepared for the elevation is key. I used a tent a few weeks prior that mimics elevation.

What to Expect on This Hunt

Extreme Altitude – Hunting above 15,000 feet requires proper acclimatization. This is the tent I use!
Long-Range Shooting – Be prepared for shots ranging from 300-600 yards plus.
Unpredictable Weather – Snow, wind, and cold are constant challenges.
Strenuous Hikes – Strong legs and endurance are key to success. keeping a steady pace especially on pack outs.
